Service-oriented programming has dramatically changed the way software applications are developped, promoting reusability of code and easing the design of complex applications. Actual techniques for automatic composition of services present several limitations to be used in the context of future pervasive scenarios: (1) limited scalability due to centralised computations, (2) slow reactivity with respect to appearance and removal of services, and (3) no support for context-aware applications. In this paper we deﬁne a chemical-model and two chemically inspired approaches for self-composition of services operating in a pervasive system.
